Let's catch up with Colette!

Welcome back to Colette’s Puppy Pen! It’s time to catch up with our cuddly Cockapoo.

Colette is making fantastic progress in her early training. She is living with Mel and Rich, her Volunteer Dog Trainers, who are giving her lots of love, and guiding her through training as she learns the important skills she’ll need to become a life-changing hearing dog.

One of these skillsets is being able to respond to basic cues, like ‘sit’, ‘down’ and ‘wait’. Colette has been working hard on mastering these cues with Mel, so let’s see how she gets on…

Well done, Colette – what a clever pup!

It is brilliant that Colette has started learning these skills from a young age, as she’ll need to follow cues throughout her entire hearing dog training and career. For example, we want Colette to feel confident to sit and wait in different situations with her future deaf partner, such as before crossing a busy road.

Colette has also been learning to walk nicely next to her trainers on the lead. This is a skill which we call ‘heelwork’, and it takes lots of practice! Let’s watch Colette and Mel in action again…
