Episode 5:

Colette's super settling

Posted by Elizabeth Murphy

Welcome back to Colette’s Puppy Pen!

Our clever Cockapoo, Colette, is making fantastic progress in her training.

Recently, Colette has been learning the very important skill of settling. This means calmly lying down on her mat and staying relaxed, without becoming distracted by what’s going on around her. It’s a skill that will be incredibly useful when Colette is out and about with her future deaf partner – for example, in an office or a restaurant.

Colette’s training is always taken at a slow and gentle pace. Before practising settling in public, she first worked on this skill at home. Each time Colette relaxed on her mat, she received lots of praise and tasty treats. This positive reinforcement helps to build Colette's confidence and encourages her to repeat this behaviour in future.

Once Colette mastered settling at home, it was time to try it out in a quiet café. We are delighted to say that she settled beautifully – in fact, she was so relaxed that she even fell asleep!
